our new identity title

Skills for Employment, Life and Family, also known as SELF, is a community program that is changing the lives of learners in our community. To help spread the word about our programs and success stories, we have added "Learning for Living" to our message statement. At SELF, we understand that literacy plays a vital role in our community and those without basic literacy skills lack the ability to confidently and independently navigate employment situations, day-to-day tasks, and family activities. A lack of literacy costs the whole community: those without literacy skills are more likely to have poorer health, receive social assistance and require social service support.

Learning for Living captures our goal in three simple words. As our learners gain new literacy and numeracy skills, they are filling in the gaps and learning how to interact with the world in a new way.  Imagine reading a child's report card for the first time and understanding your child's successes. Confidently interpreting a bus schedule to get to an interview on time. Filling out the forms to apply for a new job. Writing a letter to a friend.  All of these tasks connect you to the world and enrich your life.  SELF's Learning for Living campaign hopes to bring these experiences to everyone in our community, one learner at a time.
